About Charlie T.

Born in the same town as Jimi Hendrix (not to mention the home of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and other huge bands), Charlie T. of Seattle started her music career by singing in the shower at age 5 (as soon as she moved on from bubble baths and rubber duckies). Growing up with a mom in the church choir, she mimicked her sweet sounds and people began to notice, “That girl’s got lungs!” In a good way. She got involved in school musicals and went to summer music camps where she also learned to strum the rhythm guitar. Now, at age 21, she interns at Sub Pop Records during the summer, works at EMP (Experience Music Project) part-time, and is training to be one of the instructors at the Paul Green School of Rock Music (kinda like the real life version of Jack Black’s School of Rock, only way better).

Q & A

Job:

Charlie doubles as an EMP Music Museum employee and an instructor in training at the Paul Green School of Rock Music.

Favorite Food:

The Li’l Kim for breakfast (1 piece of French toast, 1 egg & 1 piece of bacon) and the Dixie Chick Chicken Hoagie for lunch, both served at Easy Street Records Café in West Seattle.

Favorite TV Show(s):

Anything that’s actually music-related on MTV (of course), Behind the Music (love those VH1 music history shows), and American Idol.

Favorite Actor(s):

Michael Cera (Juno) & Jonah Hill (Superbad), Ellen Page (Juno)

Favorite Band(s):

Now that’s a tough one, I have like a gazillion!!! Let’s start with my favorite guitarists, like Jimi (Hendrix, that is), Carlos Santana, The Edge, Joan Jett, and Angus Young (AC/DC). Then, as far as bands go, hmmm, I love the Beatles (who doesn’t?), the Ramones, Beck, Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie and tons more.

Favorite Hobby(s)

One of my favorite things is camping in the Cascades in the heat of summer by a river with my friends and my trusty acoustic guitar. S’mores don’t hurt either. I also love traveling across the country (and beyond) to go see shows. Did I mention I like writing too? Sometimes songs, sometimes poems.

Favorite Video Game(s):

Uh…Guitar Hero... ya think? Actually Rock Band is cool too, but almost too easy.

Why I love my job:

My job(s) are totally me. Working at the museum has given me great overall knowledge of my favorite subject: tunes! And my work at the School of Rock is totally rewarding. Teaching kids to excel is like the coolest feeling I know. And rubbing elbows with the heads of Sub Pop at my internship isn't bad either. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
